Welcome to the home page for Harbaugh Ranch Co. We raise commercial Angus cattle, Quarter horses, Clydesdale horses and Mules (of both the Quarter horse and Clydesdale breeding). Our home raised equines are used in all our daily work on the ranch. We use the Clydesdales and mules for pulling feed wagons and bobsleds around the ranch as well as covered wagons on the many summer wagon trains. They also pull in parades throughout the year.

Our guesthouse for overnight lodging on the Harbaugh ranch
was the home of our grandparents as they built up the ranch. It is the model of a pioneer country
home, now fully modernized, with a full kitchen so you can do your own cooking,
bathroom, sitting room and sleeping quarters with a total of 7 beds, which
makes it great for small groups such as families or hunters. It is all blended
with country charm.

TRAVELING THROUGH OUR AREA WITH
HORSES? Maybe you are traveling
through Montana with horses and need a place to spend the night. We offer horse
stabling at the rate of $10 per night per horse. Feed is available at current market value. We have 3 indoor stalls,
as well as turn out pens. You can
let your horses have some exercise while you rest up nearby.
Do you enjoy riding hour after hour? We offer many acres to ride through
some of Montana's most beautiful country.
This is no “nose to tail” trail ride. Landmarks on the horizon will keep you headed in the right
direction. Bring your horse or rent one of ours. Rides can be as long as the riders want them to be.

Sand Creek Clydesdales host numerous wagon trains throughout the summer and fall. The wagon train follows trails of the pioneers who helped settle the Wild West. From pioneer homesteads to buffalo jumps to the wide-open spaces, the sights to be seen are unforgettable. Many local residents come out for this event to provide entertainment, tell stories of how it used to be, and mostly just for a good time. A wagon train, held in May each year, travels across neighboring ranches helping to brand the calves as we go. All cooking is done out of doors. Participants sleep under the stars or in a tent, whichever they prefer.
In 1805, Lewis
& Clark described
our Big Sky Country so well...
"The country opens suddenly to extensive
& beautiful plains & meadows which appear
to be surrounded in every direction
with distance & lofty mountains."
The Big Sky
Country of Eastern Montana is very beautiful. We don’t have mountains near us but the rugged Missouri
River Breaks hold a beauty all their own.
Lewis and Clark traveled through the heart of our area, along the
Missouri River. This is a great place to come for an exciting but relaxing
vacation. While here you might see
many forms of wildlife including deer, antelope, numerous birds, and much more.
You will also be amazed at the unusual rock formations that Mother Nature has
left for your pleasure. Marvel at the buffalo jump, the remnants of homesteads
and dream about growing up going to a pioneer school. Other interesting sites in Garfield County include the Fort
Peck Reservoir with all its many arms for recreation of fishing, camping and
boating, as well as the excavation sites of many dinosaurs. All of this is mixed in with beautiful
sunrises and sunsets. Garfield
County has a wonderful museum filled with artifacts of our past. It’s a definite “must see”.
WHAT TO BRING ON
YOUR RANCH VACATION AND/OR WAGON TRAIN ADVENTURE:
They say, “If
you don’t like the current weather conditions in Montana, wait an hour!” With
that being said, layered clothing is optimal. If you plan to come during the
summer, you will need to be prepared for both warm and cold temperatures, as
well as rain. We don’t get a lot of rain but you need to be prepared. Your basic items should include a
comfortable riding boot (tennis shoes are great around camp but are not a good
idea for riding, so please come prepared accordingly), an insulated jacket,
lightweight rain slicker, hat or baseball cap, polarized sunglasses, sunscreen,
water bottle and camera. If fall,
winter or spring is when you choose to come, you also need to bring winter-type
clothing. Often fall and spring
gives us more “winter weather” than winter does. As you decide when you wish to come, we can give you more
information on the necessary clothing.
